A practical guide for PI firms
Good marketing follows
the whole case journey.
An introduction to the choices, measurements and operating habits behind a more accountable marketing program.
01
Start with the right cases
Define geography, practice scope, attorney capacity, language coverage and the case mix you want. A large inquiry count has limited value if most people fall outside the firm's criteria. Evaluate distinct opportunities the team can actually serve.
02
Give each channel a job
Search and Local Services Ads capture active demand. TV, streaming, social and outdoor build familiarity and support later decisions. Your website and reputation help people assess the firm. State the purpose before assigning a budget.
03
Make the creative recognizable
Use an attorney presence, a clear point of view and a visual identity people can connect to the firm. Adapt the edit to the medium. Test a meaningful difference in message or approach rather than changing everything at once.
04
Make the next step clear
Explain the relevant service, introduce the firm and make contact simple. Use readable mobile pages, accurate fee explanations and a description of what follows an inquiry. Initial forms can collect contact preferences without soliciting detailed case histories.
05
Treat intake as marketing
Assign ownership for calls, after-hours inquiries, callbacks, consultations and retainer follow-through. Distinguish an automatic acknowledgement from actual contact. Review missed and abandoned calls as well as successful ones.
06
Measure stages and full costs
Follow unique inquiries through contact, qualification, signing, retention and collected legal fees. Do not count repeat calls as new opportunities. Include relevant production, agency, intake and technology costs alongside media when assessing acquisition economics.
07
Use attribution carefully
A tracking number and tagged link identify touchpoints, not every influence on hiring. Review source reporting alongside brand trends and controlled experiments where volume and geography allow. Avoid double-counting the same case across platforms.
08
Keep sensitive information controlled
Review pixels, forms, recordings, CRM access and advertising exports. Medical and case information can be restricted even when identifiers are hashed. A generic event name does not change the underlying data.
09
Make reporting lead to action
Review what changed, the stage that needs attention, data quality and the next test. Assign an owner and review date. A useful report helps the firm decide what to do next.
Research and policy references
These support the principles above, not a universal acquisition cost or promised outcome.

- Google LSA ranking ↗ — Responsiveness and profile quality are among ranking factors.
- Google geographic Conversion Lift ↗ — Controlled tests can measure incremental effects, subject to eligibility and sufficient volume.
- Google customer data policies ↗ — Enhanced measurement has sensitive-category restrictions.
